Wissey Half Marathon

posted 6 Sept 2015, 10:45 by Jon Beverley

It was, unfortunately, a beautiful sunny morning in Oxborough for the Wissey Half Marathon put on by Ryston Runners. Had I been at the beach then I would've been very happy but as it happens I was about to embark on 13 very hot miles.  In attendance representing Reepham runners along with myself were Shayney, Hayley, Richard and Jonathan.
Not knowing the course but being told it was fast and flat we were all hoping for a good run AND being told that a glass would be handed to each finisher with 160 pints of beer available until it is gone certainly concentrated the mind!
Fast and flat though was far from how the course felt. It seemed that we were running uphill the whole time, which looking at the gradient on Strava it seems this was the case. Shayney commented that it would be a lovely course if you could run the opposite way round and I couldn't agree more.

That being said it was well organised although it was a shame that the awards were presented well before the last runner came home so the majority of people were watching awards being presented rather than a applauding home those that have made the journey to race.
Apologies for not sporting the Reepham Runners colours but it was a Leathes Prior to Grand Prix event and I have to wear the Leathes Prior colours!
