Weekend Away - 16-18 May 2014

Chris & Jean Edwards, Greg & Jayne Quinn, Jess & Eddie Alford, Tracey & Olaf Eulenstein, Jenni & Nick Bowden, Jo West & Phil Cooper ventured up to Foolow in the Peak District once again.  Nick Caley, Shaun Webb & Leigh Nobes stayed in nearby Castleton.

As usual we had a fun weekend, starting with a BBQ on Friday evening.  Below is a few of us enjoying eating outside

Nick C, Shaun & Leigh were up for a full weekend of exercise with biking on Friday and then they joined Nick B for Mount Famine fell race.  This was a 5.3 mile race with 1800' of climb.  It started with everyone in a line climbing a massive hill covered in bracken and brambles.  However, the boys said that this was the easiest part of the run!
They then had  mountains to climb, cross a river and then another mountain to climb before a downhill finish.   After starting the race we found out this is one of the toughest fell race and locals were shocked the boys were going to do a half marathon the next day.  The final resutls were Nick Caley, 35, 59:13; Shaun Webb, 55, 1:03:10; Nick Bowden, 69, 1:07:00 and Leigh Nobes, 91, 1:12:34. The next day it was the Eyam Half Marathon, Reepham had a good turn out with 10 runners.  On the home page there is a picture of the team with Max the dog - our mascot for the weekend!

It was a hot day, with a slight breeze, and probably due to this (and not any other reason - beer drinking, carrying shopping bags, fell race or walking the day before) nobody achieved the time they expected. (with exception of Phil, probably)

The times were as follows:

Eddie Alford 41  96:47
Nick Caley 89  1:43:24
Shaun Webb 93  1:43:53
Phil Cooper 106  1:45:49
Leigh Nobes 129  1:48:52
Greg Quinn 140  1:50:32
Nick Bowden 142  1:50:41
Chris Edwards 203  1:55:49
Olaf Eulenstein 279  2:06:31
Jenni Egmore 287 02:08:32

A big thank you to our support - Jean, Jayne, Jess, Jo, Tracey and Max the dog.  Hopefully they enjoyed the weekend as much as the runners.
