Yomp - 1 June 2014

Jean and Geoff Gowing, Nick Bowden and Jenni Egmore ventured to Cumbria/Yorkshire borders to try a Half Yomp at Kirkby Stephen.  This is an annual event which has been going for about 20 years.  The routes can either be ran or walked.  They are run under Fell Running Association rules so some is off path but very well marked.  The event is timed via a dibber system.  The full Yomp is 23 miles but we settled for the 11.5 mile route. There was 1700 foot of climb and descent, which basically meant it went up for about 7.5 miles and then down for 4!  Jenni and Nick ran it, with Nick coming third in a time of 1.57.  Jenni came 13th in a time of 2.21.  Jean and Geoff walked it in a time of 5 hrs 40 min.  The weather was hot so everyone did really well.

Ultra Marathon - 30 miles

The ultra was 30 miles.  We had to follow a long list of directions and check map references as the course is not marked at all.  There were 6 check points were you had to get your card stamped to prove you had done it - the last being the finish.  We got lost a couple of times but managed to get back on track it was slow going as you were constantly having to check you hadn't gone wrong,  There was a lot of farmers fields to cross (cows and yes trust me right in a cow pat lovely not the high light of the day) some road etc a good old mix.  The check points had loads of food and drink we were really well looked after with a meal to finish and only £7 to enter a bargain.  It was a very hot day and we did take it easy taking in all the fantastic scenery on route, the old castle ruins are my favourite part. A very enjoyable day Julie (Wade) and i finished in 8.31(like i said we took it easy). But hey we still finished and we weren't last i think there was a good 20 people after us. :)

NNBR Club Handicapped Run - 26 June 2014

Noel Spruce invited the Club to the North Norfolk Beach Runners Club Handicapped 5mile Race at The Dukes Head at Corpusty.  We had a good turn out with Shaun Hurr, Shaun Webb, Nick Caley, Leigh Nobes, Binx Neate-Evans, Leona Broughton, Trine Middleton, Phil Cooper, Andy Hawes, Nick Bowden.  Everyone did well especially Leona and Binx who were given steep handicapped times and managed PBs!

Humpty Dumpty 10 k - 29 June 2014

We had two of our Members venture to Reedham for this 10k.  Trine Middleton came 378 with a time of 1.03.19 and Shaun Hurr came 116 in a time of 45.09.

Torbay Half Marathon - 29 June 2014

Steve Plackett ran away from home to the Torbay Half Marathon.  He actually wore a Club shirt which must have given him the speed to beat his colleagues in a time of approximately 1.35.  May be he will be wearing it again! However, chip timing not working!  He said it was quite a hilly race but nothing compared to Eyam Half Marathon.
