Great Barrow Challenge - Half Marathon

posted 27 Jun 2015, 13:17 by Jon Beverley
Whilst looking around for a half marathon to enter for June. I stumbled across the Great Barrow Challenge which is a 10 day event, covering daily marathons, ultras and three half marathons.

Based between Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds it meant an early alarm call for an 8am start.

Training had not been good leading up to this run, with no training for two weeks due to a holiday in Malta and last night was no better with a couple of swiftys in the Fat Cat!

We set off at 8am with the marathon and ultra runners for the first 6 miles, with the first 4 miles being bridle way. With only 15 people running the half, we were on our own at the 6 mile mark, have to rely just on the signs to follow the route home. No marshals and no one to run alongside as we were so spaced out!

Anyway, I came in at just over 2 hours, finished 4th out of 15! I was very surprised. Nice a event, a little bit different from the norm. Cheers Jon Thetford
